We are excited to announce that The Durham League is expanding to include a Youth Basketball League for boys and girls ages 5-13!

Our inaugural season will begin in August 2026 in Durham, NC. If you are interested in registering your child, please click the registration link below. Once payment is submitted, you will immediately receive the registration form. After the registration form has been completed and submitted, you will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.

Our goal is not only to provide a fun and competitive basketball experience, but also to help young athletes learn and understand the game. We will spend the first few weeks teaching players the rules and fundamentals of basketball.

Please note that all regulation basketball rules will be enforced for the older age groups from the start of the season. For younger age groups, rules will be taught throughout the first three weeks and then gradually enforced beginning in Week 3.

We strongly encourage parents of older participants to ensure their child has a basic understanding of basketball fundamentals, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and general game rules prior to the start of the season.

After clicking "Register," you will be prompted to submit payment. Once your payment has been successfully processed, the registration form will automatically appear. The form will allow you to provide your child's information and list any friends or teammates you would like your child to be placed with. While we cannot guarantee placement requests, we will do our best to accommodate them.

Please note that all discounts must be applied at the time of registration. Once payment has been submitted, discounts cannot be added retroactively, and no discounted reimbursements will be issued.
All registration fees must be paid online. We do not accept cash, checks, or other forms of payment for league registration.

After submitting your registration form, there is no need to send a follow-up email. Our system will automatically notify us of your registration.
You will receive a confirmation email within 24–48 hours confirming that we have received your registration and your child's information.

Welcome to the Durham Kids League!
We are excited to launch the inaugural season of the Durham Kids League! The purpose of this league is to help young athletes gain experience playing basketball in a more structured and competitive environment while helping parents determine whether their child may be ready for AAU basketball in the future.

Designed with Parents in Mind
We understand that your weekends and free time are valuable. That's why all league activities will take place during the week, allowing families to keep their weekends free.
To make things even more convenient, practices will be held immediately before games. This means no extra trips across town for separate practices and games—everything takes place on the same day.

Team Placement
Although registration is completed on an individual basis, if you have multiple children in the same age group, please let us know. We will do our best to place them on the same team whenever possible.
We are also accepting registrations from already established teams, including AAU and recreational teams, although space is limited.

Important Information
The goal of this league is to prepare players for the next level of basketball. For older age groups, games will be officiated similarly to a regular competitive basketball game. Regulation basket heights will be used, and officials will enforce basketball rules.
For older players, we strongly recommend having a basic understanding of:

Basic game concepts and rules
Players do not need to be experts, but they should be able to grasp concepts quickly.
For younger age groups, officials will focus on teaching the game. Rules will be introduced and enforced more gradually, with some flexibility during the first few weeks. We will be especially lenient with certain violations, such as three-second calls, while players learn the game.
Players will be allowed to steal the ball and block shots as part of normal game play.

Parent Conduct Policy
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behavior.
Parents and spectators may not:

Our goal is to create a positive environment where kids can learn and enjoy basketball. If spectator behavior becomes a recurring issue, games may be live-streamed and attendance restrictions may be implemented.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the league coed?
Yes. The league is coed for all age groups.
​
Are there tryouts?
No. Every registered player is guaranteed placement on a team.
We will hold evaluation sessions where players will participate in scrimmages and basic skill drills. These evaluations help us balance teams and ensure players are placed in the appropriate age division.
Will my 8-year-old be playing against a 13-year-old?

No. Players will be divided into age-appropriate groups and will compete against others in a similar age range.
When are evaluations?

Evaluations will be held on July 23rd and July 25th.
Evaluations are closed to parents and spectators. Parents may wait in the lobby area, which includes viewing windows, but spectators will not be permitted inside the gym or standing at the windows during evaluations.
Are games on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays?
Games may be scheduled on any of those days, but your child will not play every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
One week your child may play on Thursday, while the following week they may play on Monday. Back-to-back game days will be rare.
When are practices?
A short team practice will be held immediately before each game. It is important that players arrive on time for practice.
Players who miss practice should not expect the same playing opportunities as those who attend. Practice is an important part of player development and team preparation.
Once teams are formed, coaches may choose to schedule additional practices throughout the season, but those decisions will be made on a team-by-team basis.

Will food be available?
Yes. We understand that games will take place during or shortly after dinner time.
A full-service concession stand with hot food, snacks, and beverages will be available for purchase at every game.
