We are very excited to start our first season of I-40 HOOPS, which is a competitive kids basketball league. The purpose of this league is to help your child get used to playing basketball at a more competitive level, and to help you as the parent decide if your child is ready for the AAU circuit or if that is the path you would like to take in the future. 

 

We understand that as a parent your free time and weekends are valuable, SO we are doing our league during the week so you can have your weekends free. Not only that, we are doing practices before the games so you don't have to run around town doing pick-ups and drop-offs, everything is in one day. 

 

Although sign-ups are on an individual basis, if you have 2 children in the same age range, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you and put them on the same team. We are also opening up registration to teams that are already formed so please keep that in mind as well. 

 

REMINDER:

We are getting your child ready for the next level. We WILL be calling calls like a regular game, and the hoops will be at a regular level. We cannot stress enough

that your child needs to have some kind of experience playing basketball. I'm not saying your child needs to be perfect, but they do need to be aware of double dribbles, traveling, out of bounds etc. We will be giving some grace on the 3 second call for the younger age group. We are also allowing players to steal the ball, and block shots. 

 

 

SUPER REMINDER:

WE WILL HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE FOR PARENTS YELLING AT COACHES, OTHER PLAYERS, OR PARENTS RUNNING ON THE COURT. IF FOR SOME REASON WE HAVE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH PARENTS BEING DISRUPTIVE, THE GAMES WILL BE STREAMED, AND NO AUDIENCE WILL BE ALLOWED.

IS THE LEAGUE COED?

YES, THE LEAGUE IS COED FOR ALL AGES.

 

ARE THERE TRYOUTS?

THERE ARE NO TRYOUTS, ALL CHILDREN ARE GUARANTEED TO BE PLACED ON A TEAM. WE WILL HAVE AN EVALUATION ON JULY 17TH WHERE THE KIDS WILL SCRIMMAGE AND GO THROUGH BASIC SKILL DRILLS. THIS WILL HELP US EVALUATE ALL PLAYERS TO ENSURE THAT TEAMS ARE SPLIT EVENLY, AND ALL PLAYERS ARE PLACED IN THE CORRECT AGE GROUP.

 

IS MY 8-YR-OLD GOING TO BE PLAYING WITH A 13-YR OLD?

THE ANSWER IS NO. THERE ARE DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS SO THE PLAYERS WILL BE SPLIT WITH OTHERS IN THEIR AGE RANGE. 

 

WHEN IS THE EVALUATION?

THE EVALUATION WILL BE THURSDAY, JUNE 26TH, AND FRIDAY, JUNE 27TH. THE EVALUATION IS A CLOSED EVALUATION, MEANING PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE GYM. WE DO HAVE A LOBBY FOR YOU TO WAIT IN THAT DOES HAVE A GLASS WINDOW FOR YOU TO OCCASIONALLY PEAK THROUGH. PARENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND AT THE WINDOW THE ENTIRE TIME. 

 

ARE GAMES ON THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS?

GAMES WILL BE ON BOTH THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS, BUT YOUR CHILD WILL NOT PLAY EVERY SINGLE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. YOU MAY PLAY ON A THURSDAY ONE WEEK AND FRIDAY THE OTHER, BUT THERE WILL RARELY BE A BACK-TO-BACK GAME DAY.

 

WHEN ARE PRACTICES?

WE WILL SET ASIDE TIME FOR A SHORT PRACTICE BEFORE EACH GAME, SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR CHILD TO BE ON TIME. YOU CANNOT EXPECT YOUR CHILD TO MISS PRACTICE AND GET A CHANCE TO PLAY IN THE GAME. THE REASON THAT WE ARE DOING PRACTICES ON GAME DAY IS SO THAT WE ARE NOT TAKING TIME OUT OF YOUR WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO HAVE YOU RUNNING AROUND TO PRACTICES. ONCE YOUR CHILD IS ASSIGNED TO A TEAM, THE COACH MAY SCHEDULE ADDITIONAL PRACTICES FOR YOUR TEAM THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, BUT THAT IS ON A TEAM TO TEAM BASIS.

WE DO UNDERSTAND THAT THE GAMES WILL START RIGHT AFTER WORK/ CLOSE TO DINNER TIME (AROUND 5:30/6), SO WE WILL HAVE A FULL SERVICE CONCESSION STAND WITH HOT FOOD FOR SALE AT EVERY GAME.
